Installation

The chain stopper should be installed so that chain leads in a straight line in and out when viewed from the side or from above. It should be installed on a flat surface. The deck must be strong enough to withstand the loads that may be imposed on it by the stopper, inluding shock loads. Local reinforcement may be required with the use of a hard wood or metal plate, under or on top of the deck. Studs are supplied with heavy washers. The studs may be cut back after installation, or longer studs made up if need be (see below for type required). All threads are metric coarse series. In the case of aluminium or steel decks, we recommend the use of plastic bushes through the deck to isolate the stainless steel studs from contact. Bushes are typically available from local bearing suppliers.

Check that the nuts are tightly fastened under the deck regularly.

Operation

1. To load chain, withdraw the small pin with the lanyard attached. Grasp the knurled pin and rotate it until the lock pin slides through the side of the stopper. Next, lift the pawl  and locate its slot by feel while pulling on the knurled pin. When aligned, withdraw the knurled pin and set the pawl carefully aside. Lay the chain along the groove in the stopper and re-assemble.
2. To lock chain, insert the small pin supplied on the lanyard through the holes in the side of the stopper and the pawl. This holds the pawl in the locked position.
3. To hold the pawl out of engagement, lift the pawl and insert the smaller pin suplied on the lanyard through the sides of the stopper and under the pawl. This holds the pawl up, out of engagement.

General

To avoid harsh action and noise while lying to anchor, the use of a nylon spring in front of the stopped is recommended.
