About Us James Nilsson is a family company specialising in the manufacture of anchor and pot hauling capstans, mooring and docking winches, powered sheet capstans and captive sheet winches for super yachts.
From a strong base in the New Zealand market, James Nilsson exports, directly or indirectly, a wide range of product. Outside New Zealand, Harken USA represents the Nilsson captive sheet winch range and a specialised range of winches is manufactured under house brands other international marine companies. James Nilsson actively seek representation for the “Seawinch” range of anchor winches and welcome a response from interested parties. The super yacht business entails a high degree of technical liaison with builders and designers both in New Zealand and off shore. Regular electronic exchanges of technical information take place on a one/one basis during the design and build of a typical super yacht. James Nilsson Ltd has it’s origins in a company founded by Jim and Faye Nilsson in 1968 to manufacture components. Building a winch for his father out of washing machine parts, a starter motor and a solid bronze, Jim founded a significant winch manufacturing business which by the mid 70's had a sound export base. James Nilsson Ltd is the longest established winch maker in New Zealand and often breaks new ground with innovative designs driven by customer needs. Many of those early winches are still in service and a limited range of spare parts is still carried. The modern range of winches is designed and built in the same tradition of reliable service and long life.

The company operates CNC lathes, Machining centres with CAD CAM facilities, gear cutting and other machine shop plant. A large floor area is allocated to winch assembly, service work and parts storage.
